Certified Manufacturing is moving forward in 2017 with the investment of automated equipment to supplement our robust production capabilities and processes.
After much research, Dan Polk , Product Supervisor, and Nettie Davenport, Manufacturing Engineer/Trainer, presented their strategy plan for management approval. The overall goal is to decrease any chance of on the job injury while streamlining the build process in a more consistent manner. Management was sold on the exciting plan and a Schleuniger Pneumatic Wire Stripper soon found a new home here at Certified Manufacturing. “ The cut wire stripping direct labor time will be decreased by 65-70% as well as insuring a more consistent strip and less chance of defect “ Dan Polk explained.
In our builds, crimping is one of the most time consuming tasks. Obtaining a good crimp requires using carefully engineered crimp tools and crimp connectors, and following the procedures specified by the manufactures. It can be a physically taxing part of the build for our assemblers so 3 new Pneumatic Crimpers have joined our team! The biggest benefit is the reduction of any unnecessary strain on the operator’s behalf.
Certified Manufacturing’s recent acquisition of Spot Tapers are already being utilized to automate our process and reduce labor during spot taping steps by 80%! . Constant tape tension and an ergonomic movement lead to an even grade and fold free surface. Quality already gives this purchase a thumb’s up!
In the near future, we anticipate adding an Electric Wire Stripper to production. Nettie explained that electric wire stripper is programmable and can store up to 900 different programs while performing up to 100 steps on a single cable. This addition will reduce set up time and direct labor by 80%.
